It was a tough decision to donate my late wife’s organs after her death. Our family members were very resistant. Although her life could not be saved, donating her organs saved the lives of 4-5 others, who were given a second shot at life. Organ donation empowered me to console myself in those moments of grief. I didn’t lose her to death, but rather kept her alive in others”.

I said no to Heart Transplant because I didn’t think of the option of India and I didn’t want to go to the US. I didn’t think it was possible here and didn’t know anything. We had to move from Delhi to Chennai. Now, after the transplant, I’m doing great. Organ donation has saved my life. We as a family have taken up this cause.

On 2 September 2011, I was told that I had to undergo dialysis twice a week. Six months later, I was also diagnosed with Hepatitis B, and Jaundice. Over the next six months, my life was a nightmare. On 2 September 2012, exactly one year later, I received a kidney from a girl who passed away. I spend every day of my waking life praying for this girl, and her family, who enabled me to wake up from my nightmare, and gave me the gift of life.

Any parent would say that their greatest fear in life is “losing their child”, and I was losing mine. I was shattered. How helpless and desperate I was. We could not do anything to save him. I realized there must be so many helpless mothers, wives, sisters, children and parents who might just be losing their loved ones the lack of organs. So I decided, with the consent of my husband, to donate Aman’s organs.
I once heard that if you save a life, you save the world. Well, my son saved many.
